It seems to me you one either or both of the following to sustain and industry.

    Optimism and Profit.

    Lifestyle isn't on the list.

"Build it and your kids will come ;-)"
We should be obligated to fix this now, not for our children to take over, but so our chidren have a secure, good and affordable food source. If we all give up, Bigcorp will take over, and make money....we will all manage farms for them at a good wage, holidays, etc. But it will take 30% of that wage to buy groceries and your grandkids will not be able to dream about running a 100 head herd.
I know it is a tough battle, I am the same age and looking towards a simpler life. In my letter to the premier, I stated "Is this the legacy you want to be known for?"
We have to answer the same question.
      Enjoy the warm temps!

I've always had a vision of a manure spreader backed up into an appropriate location.......and then unlock the pto and let 'er rip........ LOL. As much fun as it would be, it's probably not a good idea though.

I think I'll sit down and write yet some more letters today. Another one to the Ritz office for a start, and then I guess I'll hunt up some media.

It's do or die time guys. We've been thinking for years that it can't get worse, yet it does. Those of us still left must be a tough bunch of you know whats, so I guess we'd be the best ones to take one more stab at it.

The truth is that it is no longer about what is best for me and my operation; I believe that we are now engaged in a life and death struggle for an entire industry. At the rate that beef producers are dropping across the country, there will be no independent growers left in 5 -10 years.

The biggest feedlots in this area are simply bunk space for the packers who own the majority of the cattle in them. This is what we are up against.

Five to ten years is a generous estimate. I think it's less time than that.

That world of my Grandfather doesn't exist for my Dad anymore,

and my Dads world doesn't exist for me,

and its safe to assume my world won't exist for my son either,

the change will keep coming even though its scary and can be painful.

Was everything done that could've been done to help your industry.

What are you waiting for then?
