Just a thought about retailers. Don't we have a locally controlled retailer in pretty much every community. A retailer that has in many cases ranchers sitting on their boards. Federated Co-op

Story I heard about Federated Coop in Calgary was that they were getting some beef from Ranchers at Balzac until Cargill came in and threatened them back to using their beef. Don't know where the farmer directors were on that issue. I'm still a little dubious how honorable or honest the retailers are. Like any other business they will want the product as cheap as they can get it. I've yet to see any indication that a store would pay a premium to producers for beef because they would be selling it at a premium to country loyal customers. This would be expecting the trickle down effect to work and I know how much we all believe that theory now.
