How is the backgrounding going?

We are shredding straight alfalfa hay at the bunk & feeding 7 to 8 lb's of rolled barley with rumensin / daily. We feed half the barley in the morning & half at night. They seem to be doing pretty well this year.

I feed freechoice trefoil/grass hay (calves eat about 14-16 lbs/head/day) and then feed 1.5 lbs of a grain ration (rolled barley/20% rolled oats/ beet pulp/rolled corn)in the late afternoon. I aim for green 750 lb steers for late April grasser market. As of now they seem to be averaging in the 620 lb mark, so they are well on their way.
