I note that the latest edition of "Grass Routes" to land on producers tables in Alberta fails to make any mention of the process and approaching deadline for applications to request a refund of our checkoff dollars. How convenient - hoping that most producers will be too busy to bother applying.
To all those reading who may have forgotten the deadline it's July 31 your application has to be received in Calgary.
In Rich Smith's article on the cost of making the national check-off refundable he reckons it "could cost the industry close to $20 million per year in leveraged funding and $22 per year in benefits for producers"
That sounds about right - the usual distribution pattern - $20 million to "industry" and $22 shared between the producers of this country.
