    ABP Fall meetings

Rather than try to list them all here (the formatting goes all funny), you can click to our homepage www.albertabeef.org for a list of all the fall meetings in Alberta.

The PDF can be found here:

    One question...
Can you attend and still vote if you paid
your checkoff, but had it refunded?
I also notice the Zone 8 meeting is not in
Kitscoty this year. That should make for
    an interesting change...

How about a partial refund? Still paying some tax yet having some returned.

Yes, you can attend and vote even if you reclaimed levy. We had some resolutions passed in our zone last year to the effect that you wouldn't be able to participate if you reclaimed levy but I understand all such resolutions were thrown out on legal grounds. Apparently they are not able to exclude people who reclaim levy.I don't think that is necessarily right but that is the way it is.

Producers are eligible to vote for delegates and run as a delegate by virtue of paying the check-off, as they all do (remember that the check-off is a mandatory refundable check-off, not a voluntary check-off). Requesting a refund, partial or full, does not have any impact on a producer’s right to vote or serve. The resolution to exclude people who requested refunds was not thrown out, but was defeated at the AGM last year. Delegates understood and were sympathetic to the principle on which the resolution was based, but our current regulations would not allow it and the delegates didn’t think it would be in the best interests of ABP or the industry to try to change this part of the regulations.

".... was not thrown out, but was defeated at the AGM last year"
Sorry, my mistake - I guess it's just my resolutions that get thrown out - the rest get defeated.

GF - you should reclaim your levy, show up
for the meeting, vote and become a
              delegate.
It is a crazy, crazy world...

No, i'll be quite happy to stay home this year. I'll be reclaiming all my levy and don't intend to waste any more time on ABP - it does not support my aims and is not the organization I want to support financially. At least now I have the option not to finance an organization that work against my interests. That's not crazy - that's progress.
