Thanks for posting this again. It is great that some traction is finally getting to this conversation. When this map got released in the spring it almost cost the job of the releaser. If these areas are so significant it is curious that they wanted them to be secretively significant. My ranch is painted Red in the map and my farm is the favored corridor for power lines. I feel substantially insignificant.

Per - I am glad your place is red too.
I was concerned that I was the only one
here who stood to lose any/all decision
making power over their operation/land
base.
I can hardly wait for the next
election...
I am not sure if people in towns/cities
realize the bill essentially would apply
to them as well. God help them if
Calgary gets in the road of a power
line.
I see this whole process as empowering
the greasing the wheels of progress by
greasing the palms of elected officials.

Sean, I raised the issue of the urban folks with some of the guys running the opposition to this bill. It's true as you say that they are equally affected by the legislation and are generally unaware of it. However the feeling was that they would be easy to rally to the cause when the time came as they are more politically aware and less PC supportive. The groundwork has to be done first to convince all the rural landowners to raise a fuss - difficult when there are a lot of "true blue" supporters among them. I detect an element among the anti-CWB contingent that will go along with Bill 36 because they feel the PC party supports them on the CWB issue and the CWB is more important to them than losing their property rights.

Shaun - you should get someone from CAEPLA to do an interview as well. All rural land owners got a very well done full color news letter/ educational brochure in the mail during this last week.90,000 went out to ALTA, SK, North eastern BC. Check out

Don't put that piece at the bottom of you mail pile. It's an ergent must read!
