Kieth Wilson Bill 36, 50 Meeting in Brooks

I attended Keith Wilson's presentation in Brooks yesterday afternoon. It was very well attended; just a guess at 400 . Border Surface Rights Assn. sponsored it and passed the hat.

Keith Wilson's message is that bill 36 wipes out 800 years of progress in the rule of law (i.e. since the Magna Carta). The main points are that it gives the premier and cabinet the right to "extinguish" the rights granted by any license, permit, deed, etc. without any compensation. As well it rules out any recourse to the courts, trumps all other legislation, and is retroactive. All in all it grants powers the the government that have been unheard of in the west for 800 years.

There was talk that the government put out a rebuttal last Friday but that it doesn't credibly refute these claims. In fact Keith Wilson has an email from a govt guy named Seiferling that confirms his analysis is correct.

Why and how this happened are good questions but more important is how do we get it reversed. The advice at the meeting was to write as many letters as possible to your MLA and copy them to other MLAs and Ministers. Also there are 7 more meetings in this series and a big turnout will send a message. Today's meetings are at Pincher Creek and High River. The rest are on Kathy's post a few days ago.

This is a huge power grab that has to be stopped. Go git'em.

It was a good meeting in Brooks. One other point that was brought out that I hadn't though of is that of quota's. These have the ability to be extinguished without compensation as well under bill 36.

Watched Kathy's DVD this am when I had
some time. The legislation is
surprisingly clear for legislation, and
incredibly scary. The cabinet (not even
the government) has the right to
extinguish rights without asking, no
appeal, no compensation required and no
need to consult on "public good". They
can limit what you are allowed to do on
your land, and this also extends to
mortgages, etc. I suspect a farm that
is leveraged at all and gets a "we might
wish to develop in the future" letter
would have a hard time negotiating with
their lender...
This is serious stuff and needs to be
addressed. Letters in local papers,
coffee shop discussions, public forums,
and getting informed are all really
important here. Make sure you talk to
your MLA and don't take no for an
answer...

Happytrails, what a wonderful synopsis of the
information from the meeting; now put it in the
paper LTE just like that. Mention that at
www.landownersagainstbills.com there is more
information including listings for future meetings
with Keith Wilson, as well as letters from MD
councils, editors, etc. on the effect the LSA will
have on their ability to function.

The Bonnyville MD councillors had some intense
things to say about the Act to some Gov.
bureaucrats at a recent meeting; good examples for
others to read. Bureaucrat stated this was the first
time he heard it compared to communism - I guess
he's deaf and blind!

Section 9 (2) (e) of the LSA reads, that the Regional
Plans will - quote "manage whatever is necessary to
achieve or maintain an objective or policy, including
managing all or part of the cause of an effect or
those matters that affect or that might affect the
economy, social objectives, the environment,
human health or safety, a species or any element of
any of them; " [end quote]

What is NOT COVERED by this paragraph? Some
people have reported this is just about "public
lands" others have reported it is just about land
development projects. BULL puckey! This Act and
these REGIONAL PLANS will cover everything to do
with our lives. As Happytrails stated, they will
super-cede all existing laws [it virtually eliminates
the need for the Alberta Legislative Assembly and
MLAs; after all Ministers do NOT have to be MLAs
(this is a convention, not Law). "Stewardship
Ministers", and "Stewardship Commissioners" will
be almighty, yet they are not accountable to the
people, they are not 'elected'. The bureaucrats have
wanted free reign of this province for years, and
they almost had it... NOW it will be "legislated fact".

Bought more blank DVD's today, so if anybody
wants copies of the Nov 22 mtg with Keith Wilson
and Joe Anglin (from the AB Surface Rights mtg), I'll
gladly send it to you. Worked out well; just under 2
hours. Very informative on the LSA, and Joe Anglin
gives details on the AltaLink and Atco HVDC
projects that are very eye-opening. Better to open
your EYES, than your WALLET, ie: 16 Billion dollar
price tag for the first two, of many more to come,
"critical infrastucture" projects.

Wrote a letter to my MLA and copied it to Premier.
Requested he hold some public meetings with his
constituents to EXPLAIN these bills and why he (as
Minister) brought them to the Legislature and
endorsed them. One thing for certain, he and I
have a different VISION for Alberta. So I asked him
"who are your masters?".... shouldn't it be
Albertans, and his constituency residents? If these
politicians held some well-publicized public
meetings, they would find out what the people of
Alberta think. Some will want these lines, and many
won't... but we could hash out our opinions and
learn from each others concerns/data.

When politicians are frightened to attend public
meetings (like Vegreville mtg on power-lines
/Stelmach chickened out), OR to hold their own
public meetings... there is something VERY WRONG!

I just spent two days at Sask Crop Show with CAEPLA booth working with Sask Landowners on the movement with the Sask property rights project.

CAEPLA had Keith Wilson on conference Call 6 months ago that I had the privilege to be an attendee. I've been asked to synchronize pictures to that two hour conference call that is taped on MP3 (DVD format.

Hit and miss right now at the computer(next couple of days with the Bovine Practioners in Saskatoon with top CFIA veterinarins---same conference, same room---push back time of CFIA regulations.

Very good evening in High River last night. Keith Wilson explains everything very well. I didn't stay for much of the Q&A portion, but the presentation was fantastic. Tons of people. I would hesitiate to say there were 300ish people there.

The question and answer session was also good with thoughtful questions and direct answers. I think loric there had to be north of 300 because the main hall had 400 chairs and another 150 on the side. If those side folks were all in the main hall it would have been full.

raise the awareness and help people link
into what is going on with these bills.
Albertans against bills 19, 36 & 50.
Feel free to look up, join and comment.
I think the urban population needs to be
aware this affects them too...
Example: work and save and buy a house
in Calgary backing on the Bow River.
Minister decides to make a park for the
public good...Goodbye house and title,
compensation $0, recourse non-existent.
It is not just a bill against
agriculture.

Aren't we all just turning into quite the bunch of activists? A lot of people have left the cattle business, but the ones that are still around are proving to be a very tough bunch. ;-)
