FYI on 19, 36 and 50

I have also done a search trying to find
a facebook group as this thing needs to
be addressed using every social media
possible. I was unable to find one, so
started Albertans Against Bills 19, 36 &
50. I will attempt with the help of
other members to provide links,
information and updates about what is
going on with these bills. Feel free to
join or invite other Facebookers. The
only way to gain political awareness is
through volume. Politics is a true
commodity business...

Did our elected representatives not actually read the wording, not understand the wording or agree with the wording in the troublesome sections of this bill? The Premier says there are over 2 dozen land owners in Caucus. Surely some of them might have taken an interest in the details.

Everyone in the caucus is a property owner, unless their a renter, and I doubt that.

Per the problem is the MLAs don't read any of these bills - even the minister whose department it originates from. I don't know if this is only happening in Alberta or if all Governments work this way nowadays. It's Government done by the bureaucrats. Keith Wilson told the story of talking to 2 MLAs about Bill 36 early in his campaign. He asked them if they had actually read the Bill before passing it to which they replied "No, is their a problem with it?"

Thanks for doing that Sean, to try and kick start it a bit I'll let Joe Anglin know about the group you have started - I'm sure if he sends it out to his extensive email list that are concerned about this issue the numbers will jump. Would someone else who knows Keith Wilson a bit better than me care to do the same with him?
I really think this is the way to attract mainstream media attention - if you can get a really large number of members in a short time it gets on the evening news every time.

to you agriviller's in alberta. Per you asked the right question and Grassfarmer you responded hitting the nail on the head. The beaurocrats behind the scenes wrote the bills and your MLAs don't even look at them at all. That is why ousted one government for sake of another does not usually change the situaton. One group of MLAs just blames the other. This knowledge came from the intense work working with the CAEPLA group whose some CAEPLA members have experience seeing the corruption when they were in Federal Politics.

This is exactly what has happened to the laws the CFIA were trying to impose on all segments of the Cattle Industry.
The MPS in this case haven't even looked at the laws that are now created and the victoms are us the grassroots Cattle producer.

Like Grassfarmer, several of us have been on this thing when we should have, before it was passed. The only reason we are being listened to or at least humored is because there is a breeze of political change. I don't believe that the same old same old will occur no matter what government is elected and if it is the same at least we gave something new a shot. Voting the same way and expecting change each time is... well you know the rest. The only way the bureaucracy will change is from political will to fire a few of them. That will not happen for sure with the same leadership. The only reason the bureaucracy drives the train is because their political masters don't hold them accountable by doing the little stuff like reading the draft bill.

I think it's a bigger problem per - the fact that you have a barely functioning democracy in AB is the real problem. Most of the work gets done in caucus with only the very limited Fall and Spring sittings of the legislature - and they've now announced that they won't be having a spring sitting because they are "going on the road" Brings to mind an aging rock group trying to recreate their glory days one last time!
Until the electorate learn that only by having a strong opposition do you have a strong democracy nothing will change. We need every decision and policy to be scrutinised and contested by opposition parties breathing down the ruling party's neck for it to work properly. Electing the Wild Rose with a huge majority and giving them a 30 year spell in Government will produce exactly the kind of bad Governence we see now.

I totally agree Grassfarmer. I don't see a huge majority by anyone this time and it is not that important who wins but they need to have the balls to control the bureaucracy and to be held accountable by a strong opposition. I am not advocating another dynasty at all.

I want to put out to agriville another perspective which I had the previlege have exposure to working intensively with a great group of people.

How can a small group of individuals create a movement in a large society?

Consider the approach as a pyramid. It contains 5 levels that have to be reached to be effective. The first level is the population ie: all votes within Alberta. The second level is the stakeholders Ie: all Alberta Landowners concerned now about bill 19,bill 36 bill46 and bill 50. The third level is the "media". The fifth level is your Premier, Cabinet and your MLAs and the 4th level is the toughest to get to. The power within government that doesn't change. ie: the beaurocrats that induce and drive policy.

I am attended the Saskatchewan Beef Industry Conference Jan 19-22 in Saskatoon. I will respond to what just happened the last few months within your great province of Alberta from the perspective of someone who lived there for 20 years and now on the outside watching the story.

SADIE,sorry you can`t really gloat about AB.Just read about some of the socialist scandals in your province. You should thank GOD you were gone for some of them.Heard Albertans wanting to use some of the irrigable ground near you are being hounded by the jealous socialists.Jealousy is prominent here too! The socialists are soo successful at rehabilitating the SPECIAL AREAS that we`ve lost 10% of our population in the last two census periods.Quite a success I`d say!!

cropduster---In saskatchewan you bet you we have our own property rights problems. The surface rights Alberta Landowners have was drawn up 30 years ago now and Saskatchewan landowners when faced with a energy or utility project coming on to their property in Saskatchewan only look at Alberta's surface rights act with envy.

The CAEPLA winter 2010 brings out articles that show shortfalls in both provinces.

A few points I want to bring out now:

1)Do you think it helped the landowners in Alberta that a huge mailout of the CAEPLA 2010 magazine arrived massively about 1 month before Keith Wilson's meetings in NE BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and souther Manitoba?

2)Talk around coffee rows in areas I have been have Saskatchewan people that have read the CAEPLA magazine talking about the bills that Concern Alberta now. How many Saskatchewan/Manitoba people have relatives that live in Alberta (Calgary & Edmonton)or other that have them now talking about the bills that are affecting rural Alberta.
The more "mass of people" in ALberta that can become involved in the Alberta bills hopefully will make a difference at the election poles.

3)The two recent meetings I've been at with rural Alberta Representation are quite impressed that Saskatchewan people talk to their ALberta Neighbors about the bills.

4)Cropduster--you bet landowners in Saskatchewan have concern about the legislation regarding the surface access rights in our province.

5)The situation that happened and is happening in the irrigation area was on the other side of the river. There are other underlying issues that just happened in the last 3 years in the "river" community that made the area very sensitive. (Keep that out of this thread).

Correction---the last bracket should read (I will keep that concern of the River area in Saskatchewan out of this thread). At the Saskatchewan Cattle Feeders meeting I with with the Alberta Interested parties --very good people and brought that history to their attention.
