I fear that the new wording on '36' et al is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic...it will not achieve anything for land owner protection--just cloaks the intent in different wording--still means the same thing and some politician 10 years down the road will look at it and take advantage of the wording. Here in our County we have a 'Think Fresh' group who are mostly acreage people telling the ag. crowd how to care for wetlands, riparian areas, sensitive areas and the like. Now don't get me wrong I am all for looking after the environment, and do so to the best of my ability, however, I do see a time when land owners will be told exactly what to do, when to do it and what it will cost them in effort and money. We in the ag industry, continue to feed these folks for cheap, keep their vistas intact, look after their water quality, all the while by being painted as villans on the land. This province needs a complete house-cleaning on the political side and thank goodness for people like Keith Wilson and groups like CAEPLA who attempt to fight the politicos in Edmonton and awaken the sleeping population about what could happen to their little plot of land, even in the cities, should the province need it 'for the greater good'. In an interview with Dave Rutherford on CHQR 770 this week, Mel Knight, said 'can you imagine a nice, old grandpa like me taking someone's land?' His words--not mine. Be afraid, be very afraid!!

Sorry I choose not to be afraid.

I listened to "our MLAs" at the Alberta Beef Industry Conference and was happy with what they said. If anyone should be on the hot box,it's the lawyer who's raising a big stink and hoping for business. The idea of having my land expropriated for the greater good is fine with me so long as I get paid fair market value for it...and I trust that I would.

Guess you choose to be uninformed too Ruken - there is NO compensation period - never mind fair market value. Read the Bills it's clearly spelled out.

per said it. The message is trust us.
That is great, except the bill says that
your MLA doesn't need to be involved in
the decision making process, and as GF
says, the bill explicitly says no one is
entitled to compensation or recourse, or
              any other form of appeal.
I bet you would not appreciate giving up
your land for the greater good if you
knew they didn't even have to pay your
              moving expenses.

Exactly what they could do too should they so desire. These bills are like the 'fine print' on contracts--you do not read them at your own peril because down the road some MLA, some government, some bureacrat will read them and interpret what they really say and then we will see another Alta Link venture coming through, only by then there will not be any of the soft, fussy ads telling the world how much they value land owner's input and respect their land, yada, yada, yada. As it is now, those of use who have had the Alta Link experience were told what our land is worth and if we did not like that then there is intervener status at the AUC hearings. Also involved is huge expense for lawyers, paper and time to fight something that has been given the blessing of the current Stelmach government, their cronies and those who are going to make a ton of cash from this venture--all at the expense of the taxpayer and land owners....ah but I digress...also TPFW.

On Monday the 7th, Wilsons town hall meetig was in St.Paul, AB.

Minister Danyluks riding . He was present.

After the presentation, Wilson invited Danyluk to the microphone .

Minister Danyluk seemed to do nothing more than back peddle and defend the bills in question .

And the crowd was applauding for keith Wilson and nothing for Minister Danyluk.

... I can not believe that in 2011, as people fight for democracy and freedom around the world, the Alberta government put forth such legislation giving themselves such control.

It will be more unbelievable , and we have no one to blame but our selves if we the people of Alberta ,can't screw up enough courage , and tell our elected representatives we don't like it, and we want it changed.
