In all cases where a majority are united by a common interest or passion, the rights of the minority are in danger.

wd40 something that started to happen that truly upset big business (and subsequently our government) was that land owners began to come together to protect their rights. The AltaLink fight has been on for almost 7 years now, I believe.

Then CAEPLA came to Sask and AB and helped landowners get "trenching fees" which boosted their income for the big pipeline on their property.... On the flip side, it cut into the corporations' profits... boo hoo!!

Future "large projects" for the "public good" will include pipelines - not just power lines and future hydro projects. Then we have the plan for the highspeed-train(s) that will run from the USA north to ? Alaska? Fort McMurray?

Landowner co-operation - that is what changed.

Kathy--Time to back up. CAPLA helped landowners in Manitoba and Saskatchewan learn how to work together and learn from each other. CAPLA first only dealt with pipelines. CAPLA helped Alberta Pipeline Landowner Assocition and taught that group how to work collectively together to win on the important issues first and then the compensation. CAPLA landowners educated us on the issues that these NEB pipelines were imposing on our properties. Once the huge SAPL/MPLA ENBRIDGE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT was reached CAPLA landowners realized it was more than just the issues affecting pipelines that were a concern but also other energy and utility projects. CAPLA became CAEPLA. The issues that were won were way larger than the linear fee. Deeper pipeline, abandonment consideration on the new pipeline but also the old and aging pipelines, crossing regulations were addressed allowing landowners to cross the pipelines with modern machinery, integrity dig agreement, much better construction practices of seperating the soil horizons.

The National Energy Board the regulator who was supposed to be taking care of landowners ---were not doing their job.
That is the real reason landowners came and worked together.

CAEPLA works in all provinces but does not do the work for the landowner. IF CAEPLA can help it comes in and educates all landowners about issues and the law affecting our property rights and teaches each landowner what they can do to help themselves. (Work along side your neighbour).

For years the large energy companies, utility companies want to deal with landowners individually and "divide and conquer". CAEPLA now exists and landowners can now become part of a national organization and learn the process of working together immediately when these "BIG BULLIES" come and want "right to enter order" or "expropriate" private property.

CAEPLA right now is working in North eastern BC. In ALberta it is working hard with your land bills 19 36 46 & 50 and in Saskatchewan CAEPLA is working hard with Saskatchewan Landowners on new regulation.

MPLA--Manitoba Pipeline Landowner Association is working with CAEPLA on specific projects of their own.

        CAEPLA mission statement:

"Working to benifit all Canadians for the responsible use of our lands and resources"

SADIE - sorry I didn't say this right. Your comments are dead on and I hope that everyone reads them and shares this information with their neighbors.

You are very right, we must do the work ourselves - but thank goodness for CAEPLA and Keith Wilson's efforts over our problems here in Alberta.

I still don't get how the Alberta Government is allowing right of entry orders for the MATL power line? This is a privately funded powerline, how is it they get to use right of entry orders??? Shouldn't they be forced to go where they are wanted, and go around those that do not want them?
