Didn't take Harper long to get back into pursuing his weird idea of democracy. He wants senate reform, doesn't believe it should be filled with appointed people, believes it should be elected ones. So three appointed senators stepped down to stand as PC candidates in the federal election and were all defeated. So Harper turns around and reappoints them to the senate.
Rather like the pronouncements Ritz was making during the election campaign "the future of the CWB will be decided by farmers" yet turns around immediately after the election to announce that the Government will remove the monopoly and farmers will have no vote on the issue.
