Twine vs. Net Wrap

Looking at moving the baler from soft core to a hard core NH 688.

Any comments on net wrap vs. twine. Wrapping time, lower losses seem to be the biggest advantages with net wrap. I also hear not so good stories about frozen bales all though.

Won't be using a processor - a majority would be set out for bale grazing.

My baler has both - net wrap and twine. I love to net wrap bales I plan to sell - faster, easier to transport.

I run all the straw through the processor for bedding and feed the cows hay via processor in the winter on the ground. Also feed heifers bales of hay in feeders seperate from the cows.

I dislike net wrap for the following reasons:
- when it goes through the processor it gets chewed up into one inch pieces of plastic. I dont like my cattle eating plastic - Im scared Ill plug one up or something. Always seems like the little calves love to find some piece of plastic to chew on. And I hate having little pieces of plastic in the field to wrap around things. Twine wraps around the drum of the processor and I take 98% of it off when I clean it. And the cows arent eating plastic consistently.
- net wrap sucks in bale feeders the cattle eat out of. You either have to take the net wrap off or the calves cannot get it.

Netwrap should be banned & all the users fined heavily fer littering. We kin't litter a tiny little plastic bottle, but you lazy SOB's kin litter on A vast amount of acres with netwrap chopped into tiny little pieces. Don't yous even care what yer own land looks like??? PIGS!!!!!!!

Vast improvement on twine - reduces wastage to about zero. No problems as long as you remove the netwrap before feeding. I find this fairly easy if you set the bales on end to thaw any ice a couple of days before you feed them. You might get the odd one with some net frozen to some hay or straw - no big deal just haul it back to the burning pile. I certainly wouldn't run it through a processor with net wrap on it. I've always thought there was potential for one of the little squares of net to fit neatly over a cows tooth.

Jensend, that Globe and Mail article almost completely ignores Greece's biggest problem. It does mention it briefly in one short sentence in the last paragraph <i>"Greece of course needs some spending cutbacks."</i>, but basically tries to blame the collosal debt on tax avoiders.

Pouring more money into Greece by the EU will only delay the inevitable. There are far too few "makers" in Greece and far too many "takers" (low or no productivity jobs with high pay). Cradle to grave socialism is always destined to fail as it will eventually run out of other peoples money to spend - Margaret Thatcher.

Why should the German worker who has to work harder and longer before retiremnent be expected to pay for early retirement of the Greek employee?

Hasn't Greece been in decline since about 450 B.C.I agree with last post-it's pretty easy to figure out what went wrong with Greece-the largest industry is overpaid gov't plus there pensions.

This is also wrapped up in the "Bilderberg Group" conspiracy as the eight mentioned in the article are prominant members.

But BTO, as a comedian concerned with conspiracy and power concentration, I fail to understand how you support the CWB. It is more of the same concept. Even the obvious incestuous relationship between the wheat board and Mission Terminals/Upper Lakes/Adrian Measner should be investigated. One can't help but be suspicous as to why the Liberals defended the board no matter what. Is it a way to control western Canadian agriculture, or to guarantee the food supply for the elite (if the end is nigh), or what? There is some reason this beast has been so hard to conquer and it's not done yet.

farmranger i won't argue how they got there because you're right. i just think the eventual outcome will be a step backwards. if greece was overspending why did the banks lend the money? if they made bad loans they should take some losses too. let greece default and get them back on the rails acting more responsibly. instead they will transfer assets that should be publicly owned to big finance at a discount and the bad loans will be covered too.

Jensend- called credit default swaps- banks insured themselves if they defaulted. Better to have them default than write down the debt.

so i guess the solution would have been for greece to use the bailout to trade credit default swaps so they could continue on and never be responsible for their actions. that's what cds does for the banks. would this have not developed in a more rational way if greece was responsible for its fiscal policy and the banks were responsible for making bad loans? yeah caveat emptor but it's been shown the banks were liars when they packaged the cds so they should be made to pay the price for being crooks.
