    Net Wrap and Bale Grazing

Does anyone have any experience using net wrap for bale grazing? We have been using sisal twine but really like the speed, etc of net wrap.

Are there any special techniques? Do you cut the wrap to use? Any tips would be appreciated.

We have never used net wrap bales, but I
know several folks who bale graze with
them and leave the wrap on. They go
around and pick it up in the spring.
FWIW it seems to work for them.

Plan to replace all of your eartags in the
spring if you leave it on. I cut it and
pull it off, which is much easier done in
Sept-Oct than Jan-Feb, trust me, been
      there done that.

Thanks both so far. PureCountry, does teh wind raise havoc with the bales if the wrap is taken off in the fall?

Wind may be a factor depending on the
location/topography and type of hay. I
wouldn't do it with soft core meadow
grass bales on a wide open wind swept
slope in chinook country. We've done it
with alfalfa/brome bales on wide open
          pastures/stubble before, both worked
fine. Some blew around, not much though.
It's awful nice to move a hot wire to
give the girls another week's worth of
feed, knowing you don't have twines to
cut. Your hands and knuckles will thank
          you when you're older.
