    Finally bought some cattle

Managed to get 30 of the Lakeview Ranches
bred black heifers $1400. So now I have 121
heifers to calve out next spring...a certain Ian
Tyson song comes to mind....and a deal is a deal
    I guess....

      Thanks farmers son

The latest land auctions are getting nuts way up
north here. A friend of mine (canola guy) just
dropped a million bucks on 9 bush quarters so
111k/quarter average. Some bush land hitting
160k/quarter. He plans to have it all cut and piled
by spring. FCC rep up here was saying 3 years
to get land into production, the deep pocket boys
can do it in a year. Amazing thing to see such a
transformation of the landscape. But when you
drop a million you want to start making a return
      as soon as you can.

I feel like a correction for stupidity should be about due. Ft. Vermilion has the longest distance to haul to market and the longest distance to bring things in. I guess the technology of the calculator has not made it that far north yet...

I think the government must be a little surprised
at the demand for land up here. Stage 1 and 2
total lands to be sold 116,960 acres or 731
quarters. 731 quarters x average overall price of
          70,000 per quarter = $51,170,000.00

I think their is only one more stage (3) which is
land from high level east to fort vermilion likely
another couple hundred quarters will sell there.

This area has lots of wealthy people... money
from at one time 3 large saw mills now 2 so guys
who were logging contractors who put that
money into farming, and all the workers for these
guys made good wages logging. Tolko in high
level has the largest mill yard in north america
and from what I heard it is their most profitable
mill. A couple years ago when all 3 mills were
going there was 600 log trucks running around. A
loaded log truck rolled into tolko every less than 3
minutes. Think of the infrastructure to make that
happen. Then there is the oil and gas fields up
here Rainbow lake and Zama. All this leads to
lots of old well established money. To be in your
30 or 40's and worth over a million bucks is
          common up here.

I am sure pleased that you "pulled the trigger" and bought your "bred heifers".

Now what are you going to tell your uncle. No xmas drinks, no turkey dinner for you.

Ya he knows how to look after himself. No
Christmas dinner at uncle Bens. He trades
girlfriends as much as he trades cattle. My nick
name for him is Benny the bull. He likes that but
I sure wouldn't. My dad has Alzheimer's bad and
this will be his last winter. Watching how mom
cares for him it's easy to see she will be the last
              thing he ever knows.

Grassfarmer how do I send this easy wein to
              you?
