Interesting Day...

Joel Salatin (Polyface Farms) was in AB
speaking this week. I headed down to
his Coronation appearance. He was
really good. I appreciated his ethos
and outlook on things, his self
determination, and his hope for the
future. The youngest AG crown I have
been in in ages (I counted at least 3
babies in the room). There is a lot of
optimism for a different approach to
earning a living farming without being
on the input treadmill. It was a day
well spent.

I was at the Lacombe meeting the previous day,
good crowd there too. Mixed crowd, older and
younger producers as well as local foodies and even
some of my retail beef customers. The most
surprising thing I learnt was that his frost dates are
May 15 and Sept 15th. That challenges some
perceptions.

I had the pleasure of attending the Highwood session. Also babies in the crowd of 150 people. Actually had an election for the FFGA board. Nice to see optimism and some out side the box thinking. It was 15 or more years since I have seen Joel. His presentation was good back then but is better now.
