With the melt down in the cull cow market there should be some awful cheap hamburger out there. So why is it still up? The fat market has dropped to about 75% of what it was back in March. So a steak should be cheaper, right? NOT! It has actually gone up! In the west we are awash in a sea of beef from the large cow slaughter and yet imports of cheap NZ and Australian beef are running at levels almost twice as high as last year. How can they do this?
Incidently there is a rumor going around that IBP is cutting back on their cow purchases as they have stockpiled so much cow beef and live cull cows. Take them out of the picture and it is not going to be pretty.
