Don't know if most folks are aware of a change being
proposed by the Federal Government. Word is the
entire Animal Pedigree Act will be repealed. The
Animal Pedigree Act is a fairly benign piece of
legislation that provides the structure for our breed
Associations - not only farm livestock but also
horses, dogs etc.
Not sure why they would repeal this - on cost
grounds it seems minimal saving for the upset it
would cause. Two employees with Ag Canada work on
it but not full time. Can't see any obvious Corporate
interest being served by abolishing it which seems to
drive most of Harpers agenda.
Rather strange that Ritz travels the globe and touts
market openings for beef and purebred breeding
stock meanwhile back home he is planning to repeal
the APA, something that adds integrity and
authenticity to Canada's purebred livestock sector.
Anyone have a different insight into why the Feds
might be pursuing this?
