I found this article "The verdict on Thatcherism is clear" very
interesting.
I lived through the Thatcher era in the UK and was a staunch
supporter but now with the benefit of time and looking back this
article lets me see things in another light. What I've seen in Canada
looks very like what they describe here - the obsession with
ideology of the free, unregulated marketplace. The haste to exploit
the oil/gas reserves while retaining minimal proceeds for future
generations.
One thing missing from the article is the mention of population
size - Norway is @5 million roughly where Great Britain is @62
million so that skews the math a little with regard to oil revenue
per head. Still I think there are some warning signs Canada should
heed.
