Learn More About Grasshoppers Before You Eat Them...

Here's a couple websites for those who are new to the hopper situation, and don't mind reading up a little bit. The first is a USDA site, and the second is from our Alberta (Ag. Canada) guru Dan Johnson at Lethbridge:

    http://www.sidney.ars.usda.gov/grasshopper/

    http://res2.agr.ca/lethbridge/scitech/dlj/dlj01.htm

Both are loaded with good links. For the record, our four main pest grasshopper species in Alberta (and most of the prairies) are the following

    two-striped grasshopper
    clear-winged grasshopper
    migratory grasshopper
    packard grasshopper

Arm yourself with some knowledge and learn about what you are about to eat as you heat up the chocolate on the stove for a good batch of yummy candied hoppers.....

Don't know if I would eat a grass hopper, but the kids have been feeding them to their pet lizard and it has been quite enjoyable to watch. Just desserts.
