Just lost two cow to what we beleive is arrowgrass...... Drought, Hoppers, now this. Anyone got any ideas on how to get rid of this stuff - other than the obvious of fencing it off or pulling the cows out?

sorry, no magic cure. You have the right strategy there - fence it off and get them out of it.
Actually, arrowgrass is always around, but if there is enough to eat, the cattle rarely touch it. To top it off, drought greatly increases the toxicity of arrowgrass by concentrating the acid which causes the poisoning. Get 'em out of the field ASAP. The arrowgrass is likely growing in an alkalai area and/or patch that was wet at one time, but has now dried up to allow more arrowgrass. Good luck...
