And yet you say you can't get a grant for a hayshed because you're in the wrong tax bracket. Move south. We don't have grants for haysheds period. Haysheds are a cost of doing business and they pay for themselves pretty quickly. We wouldn't think of trying to get a grant to house cattle, for export or anything else. The fact remains: There IS a special program funnelling money to northern agriculture, and only northern agriculture. There is no such program restricted to southern farmers. If northern Ontario has so many advantages in your mind, why do you need more?

palexand: You've got the right attitude. So many people are living in a dream world in regards to their cattle. Feeding them now with what little hay they have. For what? So they can sell them in a month when reality hits? $200/ton hay just being wasted!
Hard times call for hard decisions. Survival will happen for those who make those hard decisions. The people who dither along will hit the wall sooner or later. Theres more to life than losing money on a bunch of cows!

Personally, any sympathy I had for a northern Ontario Farmer went out the window with phrase " injuns and halfbreeds " The correlation that was trying to be made is apparently true in some 'areas' of agriculture . 15444 not only do I farm full time with no off farm income I have a full time employee who depends on and appreciates the work and salary provided to him from our operation. I think I understand your predicament quite clearly it seems everyone else including the government is to blame for where you are in your career except the most obvious. Your predicament rests squarely on the shoulders of a self absorbed whiner.

The Northern Ontario Advantage is that we don't get ourselves into predicaments where we have to get on our knees and beg people to help us. I didn't say that that didn't include a crappy income. Also when I mean wrong tax bracket, I mean it's not high enough. N Heritage expects to see an major increase in profits in the coming years after a grant has been given or the grant becomes a loan with a hefty interest rate! I made 15 grand pure profit last year. (To get N Heritage, they want you making a least 60-70 grand a year. How much did you make? There is no way that any farmer can make over 50 grand a year without having another job, either himself, wife, parents, kid, etc. coming in. Also, you can only have cattle, no grain or other crops!

You know, I will be polite about this , but I don't feel this chat area is a place for racial slurs etc. The arguments on free speach can take up a lot of time, and in no way am I advocating what the Ag-Ville people consider appropriate language here either, but buddy, for all you know I could be native. Now I know , or at least I think I know, that you are very disturbed by past events which have happened to you or your freinds, or for that matter may be entirely just your up bringing. Heck, maybe you just want to vent and need a sympathetic ear. We have all had the opportunity to talk about ourselves in one way or another and in doing so reveil much about ourselves. It gives us new insight , ideas ........whatever else too. So I don't mind listening or talking if you want to get it off your chest, but if you just want to plain old slam certain " groups ", then the buck will stop here. I will do one of two things. The choice will also be yours for which I do. The first is sinking to your level and will give you a description of what you see in the mirror ( remember all that info you have given ? )....The second will be my contacting Ag-ville to complain...I don't need to read racial slurs and I certainly don't have to put up with it.
If you want to talk sometime thats fine, politics, finance etc etc. Want to learn what exists outside your township, I am willing to talk to anyone. But the choice is now yours. Please choose wisely.

15444 In most of your writings, you shows signs of high stress, and have quite a chip on your shoulders. RELAX MAN(which of course this is easier say than done) This has been a highly stressful year for alot of people, not just farmers. The world is in a turmoil, but it is how you react and deal with things that will determine your quality of life.

Actually 15444 you can call me a dumb Limey or a cheap Scotchman and it will be alright...besides you might just be right! The problem is you imply these people should be dumped on for being on the government tit. Well why not? If the government would let me suck, so would I! People are just people. No matter what race we are we all want the same thing. To get ahead in life, to raise our families. Natives are no different than anyone else so don't blame them for the screwups our governments have made.
I have found that being envious of anyone is a losing battle. It won't change anything just make you bitter. Always be happy for the other guy...its a lot nicer way to live and view the world.
