I would like to suggest that people don’t sell their livestock if they are not in a position to retire.
These are some things one should consider before you make your final decision:
1.Are you in a financial position to retire?
2.Do you have the education and qualification to get a job that pays enough to maintain a reasonable life style? Off farm jobs are not a bed of roses and some people need two jobs to feed their families.
3.Do you have a job lined up to support your family if you sell all you animals?
4.Do you plan to return to a farming operation at a later date?
5.It takes a long time to replace all your good animals.
6.See if you can downsize and fine enough feed to winter the animals, because you need that factory for next year’s income.
7.If you don’t have the money to buy feed, may be borrow or get a job to get money to buy feed for your animals.
8.See if you can get someone to feed you animals on a profit sharing agreement.
9.Talk to people that work for a minimum wage and try to feed their families and you will realize farming is not so bad even with some bad years.
10.All I am trying to say is, there is a future in the cattle business, because people need to eat everyday. With all the diseases in livestock all over the world and if we take good care of our animals, the cattle business in Canada could become a goldmine.
