To me Sadie there is a time to build and a time to watch...I'm in the watch mode.

Exactly blackjack, there were plenty chances to build younger herds in recent years. Maybe its the guys that thought the industry was in a "DEATH SPIRAL" and sold their cows that are buying back the high priced ones now?

Interesting comments. I have never changed my program. I have always bought 15 to 20 bred heifers every year from the same reputable producer.

This is what our operation can handle comfortable with infra-structure and man-power.

Selling steers, Open heifers on the same market you buy back on never hurts an operation.

Keeping a young herd is important to my operation.

We bred 70 to 90 heifers every year, no worries about what they are bred to or what heifers are going to turn out like. Yes it is a cost the last couple of years as prices increase for stockers, but if you believe in what you are doing, why change!

Don't understand that post SCS - do you mean you are buying yearlings and selling breds or you are buying breds for your herd replacements?

Have to admit that I am a little shocked the cow-calf guy is investing that far out.Thought quality breds would be more in the 2100 to 2400 dollar range. The cop has definitely rose in some herds.
