    Alberta politics

I know I'm relatively new here but I'm baffled by AB politics. You have a long governing party that is run by big oil, corrupt and with a sense of entitlement in everything they do. So a new opposition party comes into being to fight that, calling them out on the corruption and entitlement - now they turn around and join said governing party. Clearly the Wildrose were bought out by big oil.

What I don't get is that 85% of the population are more interested in Christmas shopping than democracy.

What needs to happen here is an NDP landslide at the next election - not that I'm an NDP supporter by any stretch of the imagination but can't the electorate see it's the only way to right a wrong, restore democracy and put an end to this gravy train of entitlement? How can an electorate be so apathetic and politically naive?

I remember back in the eighties grassfarmer there was a slogan..."Please God give us another oil boom".It appears history could repeat its self.

So, the average citizen is inept and no longer able to look after his best interests, so socialist party must win in order to save citizens from their own doom.

Thank you, comrade. You will do well in your new homeland. Say hello to Lenin when you visit Moscow...I mean Winnipeg.

I guess you didn't understand the simple concept in my post 15444, nothing to do with socialist or not -I am not a socialist, never have been, never will be - but yours is the kind of dumb thinking that keeps these supposed right wing crooks in power.
All worried if "socialists" got elected but quite happy to elect "Cons" that give themselves the right to confiscate your land with no compensation - isn't that one of the things that communists are supposed to do?

Yes, very disappointed with this. It seems we are doomed to these conservatives till the end of time. These people are carless with money, and only care about their entitlements/pensions. Last year the province made more money from gambling than from Royalties. What is going to happen now? Looks like Jim will have to bring in a sales tax boys,..... will it still be communist if the conservatives bring it in????????

One thing I do know is that communists do not respect property rights.....

You went from the ethics of switching parties and voter apathy to something else completely, good job.

I hate labels. They are the fastest way to a closed mind, and when everyone refuses to listen to any new ideas because of their predetermined bias about who has the idea, nothing changes.

Just look to the south to see how that all works. They haven't had a new idea in years because they are so busy labelling and insulting each other in some kind of big peeing contest.

Let's not end up like them.

Thats a really good point kato but sadly we can't say it doesn't already exist here. CWB, Conservative, NFU, Communist, Socialist - the labels already dominate discussion and close minds in western Canada.

On the Alberta thing that was my very point - doesn't matter if it is the "monkey with yellow spots" party at this point they would be worth electing to precipitate change. The important thing is that they get one term, not 40 years, and there is a healthy opposition breathing down their necks. It's the only way democracy works.

Well we went from an elitist type Getty to a flamboyant Klein to Stelmach to which we witnessed what the oil-gas industry thought of him.Now we're back to a big spending govt that I was hoping the Wildrose would curtail...definitely disappointed.Personally the ones crossing the floor how can they can look themselves in the mirror.

We are moving towards a two party system just like in the US. I feel with this move by Wildrose members that accountability of MLAs has 'gone out the window'. I guess they really don't represent their constituents.
