I have some wheat swathed under the snow. I can bale it (very slowly) and am wondering what the value is (20 bu crop was 14% protein #3 before the snow). I am guessing 6-10 bu/bale not sure on moisture but probably around 30% so 6-8 bu @$4 is $24-32 plus $30 for the straw, is this a reasonable price (55-62$/bale). How long will these keep baled at -10C? Can anybody feed these or are they just bedding? I am sure it wont warm up enough to get it off as grain this fall and it will be crap in the spring so I would rather bale it now than burn it in the spring. Thanks for any suggestions

Thats a little bit high i feel why not sell it for swath grazing-save yourself the griefv and expense of baling. In our areas the farmers are still wishing and hoping but i think were headed for a big mess in the spring. Burning wet swaths in april is zero return.

It will heat in the bale, but the cows love it.You will want to feed it up as soon as posible tho.
If you bale it as you find buyers for it you wont have heating bales sitting around.
Few years back I baled some in nov. with snow on it and I fed the last one in feb. It was just starting to get a little mold on it.
I think your price is ok too.
