Anyone hear what the going rates are for leasing cows? The only one I've heard of so far is 75% - 25%. Considering the price of feed this year, does it really make sense to lease someones cows? I would think that should be the split on a normal year.

Share deals are hard to make work alot easier method is just a cash lease per cow per year. Common one is 10% of cows value lessee gets cull cow income but must replace her with a heifer. The most important thing is to get things in writing-have an exit clause etc. Many friendships have ended over share cows.

I am paying $200/cow for every calf if 10 cows have 11 calves then $2200. I manage the cows all year. and have final say what comes & goes. I provide bull etc. The owner is opened to abit of risk this way. We have to come up with a bottom number though if you have a wreck. Like the other letter make sure you have the understanding in writing so everyone involved understands. its alot easier/cheaper dealing with the owner than the lawyers
