Diesel Rebate on the choping block.

Notice to all RURAL farmers and ranchers. The Redord government put out a survey to Albertans regarding ways they can cut expenses.
Included in this survey was question: SHOULD THE PROVINCE CUT THE FARM FUEL REBATE ON DIESEL FUEL?
The problem is a vast majority of people voting on this issue are from urban populas and have no idea what the rebate means to farmers and rancher bottom line.
Heads up as we may see the removal of our Diesel rebate. If you have a conern share this posting to all your contacts.
This message was a posting from Don Bester of the Alberta Surface Rights Group

with all the big trucks on the roads, I think the rebate should be reduced to include only the off-road use.....

      During prosperous times governments normally
      reduce subsidies. Sad but true.

In the UK they had a different system - it was a way
bigger discount on farm fuel relative to the gas
station price of diesel. Maybe 40% discount instead of
10-15% or whatever ours work out to here. Catch was
it was limited to on farm use so really you had to limit
it to tractors. Not saying that was a better system -
just a different way to do it.
I resent the hockey moms driving their kids in SUVs
around the province to games on farm fuel. That is
not the intent of the program and its what will make
non-farm Albertans in favor of scrapping the
        program.

If they enforced the laws we have it
would make a huge difference. Marked
fuel is not supposed to be used for off
farm business but there are all kinds of
Window decals on trucks with farm
plates. Also rig fuel is marked the same
as farm so maybe start checking the
leasehound jacked up diesels to see what
          color fuel is in them.

And here is the URL so you too can SAVE ALBERTA.

I left the farm fuel rebate in my calculations and most people services as well and came up with a very modest .6 billion dollar savings.

Thats right about the Hockey moms. If the vehicle can't haul 1/2 a Tonne of feed, a sick calf, 50 fence posts, or a combine concave, then its not a farm vehicle. MAYBE continue with a farm vehicle designation for Insurance, but not for fuel.

My 2cents now rounded to zero

I used to have quite a bit to do with farm groups in the province I had back then tried to get the requiremnets for affda moved a alot higher currently it is only 10000 of income needed and that is way short of where it should be. I met with resistance at the time and it never went anywhere.

The ten grand gross sales thing is
bullshit. In Alberta if you don't have a
net income of fifty grand you can't
support yourself let alone pretend your
making a profit as a business.
It should be at least fifty thousand
                  gross sales to get status.

$50,000? That wouldn't exclude the lawyers that buy cattle as tax deductions every fall. Again........ if you can't haul with it, then it ain't a farm vehicle.
