    Auction market consolidation

I hear Sekura auctions out of Drayton Valley has now
bought Rimbey auction to add to the Triple J,
Westlock auction they bought a couple of years ago.
Nothing against this company, I don't know much
about them, but it's reducing choice for consignors
and I'm inclined to think thats not a good thing.

The owner of the Rimbey auction was
looking to slow down a bit and found a
good and willing buyer. I read a news
    release somewhere, but can't remember
exactly it was in my winter reading pile.
T other guys could have bought it (LOL).
I think we will continue to see
    consolidation and reduced auction volumes
    over time.

Thats what surprised me most - that an auction
company (Sekura) is aggressively expanding at this
time in terms of taking over and maintaining separate
venues with declining cattle numbers overall.
I think it must have been a pretty good offer as the
owner wasn't really looking to sell.

They rebuilt all the sheep and hog pens that had
long been torn out of Westlock. As soon as they
bought Westlock they called us up and asked how
things were and said they were ready to go.
