Certified Angus Beef... the most recognized and successful branded beef brand in the world..... they have convinced the consumer that knows nothing about what an Angus animal is that it is the best... it would be stupid not to ride that marketing to get your brand to have sale value... sorry guys it works well for us... we now export to 15 global markets and have not sold 1 lb of beef into the US... we are very proud of that... its too bad our industry did not learn from the last 10 years of lessons... by the way I have a better domain... www.beef.ca

I certainly agree Angus has done an outstanding marketing program, 2nd to none....and am jealous about that!

X2 on Angus beef. Also kudo's to Gaucho for finding buyers for Canadian beef. Not to split hairs but it strikes me a bit false to proudly shun the U.S. market while hitching a ride with the Angus beef promotion.

GF. I see that maple syrup is #18 on the commodities list...well below several kinds of swine.

            well --- mostly angus.

Ya know -- it is not so much that I don't want to sell Americans beef. In fact, I would love to sell Americans Canadian beef instead of selling cattle to American companies, bragging about how it is Canadian and then helping these American companies sell that beef to their American cousins and make money for their American shareholders and owners. And if you think that is a convoluted view of Canadian and American beef, you should sit in on an ABP meeting........

I'd give my left arm for the simplicity on the far side of complexity.

Here it is. We own the cattle. We feed them Canadian feed. We slaughter the cattle. We own the beef. We sell the beef to Americans or Hong Kongians, or Saudians or whateverians Christoph has convinced that Canadian beef is good with his salesmanship.

Might be able to dig up another Canadian beef salesman somewhere as well.

I laughed Gaucho at your other domain name - didn't
know you had it too. Genius. You'd think with the
budgets and staff that the "industry organizations"
have one of them might have thought to have picked
up that domain name? Maybe a good example of the
kind of job "Canada Beef Inc" has done?

the domain came up on auction 6 months ago and I never thought I would get it(ebay type auction) ... I offered Canada Beef to lease it back to them after the XL Fiasco as consumer confidence site but no bites... glad we have it for ourselves now... doesn't get easier than info@beef.ca for an email address

Yes I give the Americans credit for CAB and it doesn't hurt to snag an steal ideas rather than inventing them yourself...especially with their success

                  Good buy Gaucho.
I think the thing that I find really frustrating about CAB is how everyone
swears the cattle aren't Angus (may or may not be), but love to take
advantage of the added value to beef in general. The biggest thing CAB did
was create a product/perception and stick with it. It took nearly 30
years, nearly went broke and had to have several prominent members bankroll
it out of their own pockets to a pretty tune when it started.
I don't see that kind of stick-to-it-ivness in most of our marketing
ventures of today. There is very little being done to prove to the
consumer that we are concerned and care for them and their long term
benefit. Most are focused only as far as the loading chute in the fall.

Back to the discussion on the mcool dispute, I agree with the idea of tariffs although I hesitate involving products unrelated to beef. Uninvolved people and businesses get hurt in this tactic.
When reading American beef outlook documents, they do recognize Canada as a major market that is more secure than most offshort markets. That we have in common. I suspect that the threat of tariffs will give those organizations opposing Mcool fodder in the fight for resolution from within. If the tarrifs actually make it to fruition, the Canadian truckers will actually be the winners as they'll be trucking western beef to our eastern customers. That's way further than shipping animals or product south from alberta and then shipping product back north from the eastern states.

                      Welcome aboard Ken!
I fail to see how anyone thinks using trade sanctions
against the US can possibly result in a "win" for
Canada when you look at the balance of trade figures.
2012 Canadian exports to the US were 462,528.2
(million dollars. 2012 US exports to Canada were
296,458.1 (million dollars) .... and you think we can
                      bluff them??
