Good morning!
Last year someone posted a recipe for scour treat using bleach & egg, which I used on a few "hopeless" cases some of whom recovered. I've misplaced the exact formula, maybe someone here can post it again? Thanks a lot!

2 litres water
2 eggs
1 tbsp bleach or hibitaine
1 tbsp baking soda

Now that I look I also have one with:

2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 package certo


but I don't have what this is supposed to be mixed with.

Beef broth, as far as I remember. Tried this one once but didn't have good luck with it. Maybe just one of those things.

I have the greatest scour treatment in the world. It is a powder made by Big Country Agri-Feed Ltd. It is called MEDICATED T-V SPECIAL WATER SOLUBLE POWDER.

This powder is designed to be mixed with water but I use one or two heaping teaspoons of dry powder in the mouth. I have found this to be a never fail remedy for scours. Very seldom do we have to treat more than a day. I leave the calf right on the cow or in severe cases we may be feeding the calf.

I have treated cases where the calf is pure scour and sick and this bungs them up with no apparent side effects. I have even had success with bloody scours. It does nothing for other sickness or a weak calf that has scours and was not treated soon enough. But it sure works for clearing things up and it is so nice a easy to use.

Trust me on this one you will be happy. It also does not seem to outdate as the one I have in front of me and used this winter is dated for Dec/98. I bought mine from a Watkins saleman.

No haven't started calving yet.I learned in my last stint in the cattle biz that winter calving wasn't the right thing for our farm.This time around we switched to june calving and after one year under our belts can say that this works really well on our farm.

What I am doing right now though is getting the herd TB tested.Right now I have 3 "reactors".Will find out the fate of my herd on Monday.Good luck with the rest of the year.

Sure hope things work out well for you CountryGuy. We live just south of the "Zone" and north of 16 highway. Most of us can't imagine the stress everyone in Zone 45 must be going though everytime CFIA goes though the neighbourhood.

Our calving doesn't happen for another couple of weeks (WE hope). Just finishing up the lambing this week, with one young ewe lamb left to go. Of course she wasn't marked so we will be surprised when she lambs.

Good luck Country Guy. I tested in Nov.

Had one react. Was quaranteened for week and a half before was found out it was a false reacter. To bad cow had to die for nothing. It was not a happy week and a half.

Naker,I wonder how many innocent cows have been killed already with this pointless testing while the gov'ts herd is still running around spreading this crap.

Oh yeah,almost forgot,cows tested clean this morning.Have a coulple bulls to test yet but I am sure they will be fine.<whew!!>

Woohoo Countryguy, that's really great! What kind of cows are you running?

Corine,we are running Galloway/Angus cross cows(blacks)right now breeding Galloway focussing on building a Galloway based cow herd.Once we get our cow numbers up we will probably then start breeding the main cowherd Angus to knock some of the hair off of the calves.How about you guys?

Great News CG, and good luck with the bulls. We live of the "other side of the Mountain" just north of Solsgirth. Still its too close to Zone 45 and actually the Birdtail Valley is great contuit for the bears from RMNP. Personally haven't seen any elk this far south YET.
