Will there be time for questions from the floor pandiana?
Any idea of potential attendence?
Yes, emerald it's probably a good idea to listen first, but I don't plan to drive for 2 hours to hear about ear tags and recording birth dates. I want some answers.
here's my ????????
Most of you may already know that the Beef Initiative Group has brought forward a New Business model for the Beef Industry in Canada. This model involves producer ownership of one or more very large packing plants, bridge financed by our Federal Government and paid down by a levy. This levy would become a share in this business venture allowing producers of this country post slaughter benefits, competition for the multinational monopoly and an opportunity to take charge of their own destiny.
Our group has received overwhelming Producer and Federal Government support, yet the ABP has barely given this concept the time of day.
I wonder why the fear. All we ask is support. Is the leadership of ABP so focused on an open US border and support for Investor led packing proposals that they cannot see the merits in this new business model?
Is the hope that Investor funded packing proposals, led by many of the ABP and CCA delegates, would find themselves in the position Xcel or Neilsen Brothers found themselves in these past couple of years. Riding the shirttails of our mutinational monopoly and profiting from the next political or economic, debacle that hits the beef cattle industry in western Canada. Talk of overcapacity reaks of fear of competition to me. If Cargil and Tyson fall behind in areas like BSE testing, and waste removal, maybe they will have to close their doors.
For those who have already invested in one of the few proposals that have actually made it beyond the drawing table, why not a diversified portfolio? Competition is the only hope for ALL Canadian producers.
How many people in this room would show support for a levy funded packing proposal that would set a new course for the beef cattle industry in this country?
