On tv it showed dead cattle in the local dump with the city garbage. If this doesn't get a reaction from city people, I don't know what will.

I know one place this is happening is in Winnipeg.The rendering plants now refuse to render beef so now they are dumping them in the landfill sites.

it is happing in Manitoba. There was more on the 11pm.cbs news tonight. Not only cattle but pigs also. The goverment is being asked to substidice the plants until the mad cow is settled.
the rendering is not being excepted in the states and the back up is getting to great.

The piece I saw was on Global news and it said that the biggest rendering plant in Manitoba was not accepting any cattle right now because they want to keep selling feed into the U.S.

There were numerous cows in the shot and the folks at the landfill were covering them up with dirt in order to keep the smell down.

I was also reading an article from the U.S. I believe it was that there are those that feel that nothing of an animal nature should be used in any feed - as is the practice in the U.K. and the rest of Europe.

Right now we are allowing ruminant renderings in poultry and pork feeds, but what if the cows get into some of that feed or when they are finishing off a batch of pork or poultry food and start up a batch for cows, there is the potential for cross-contamination.

I'm beginning to think that we should maybe adopt these practices. I realize that it would leave us with somewhat of a problem as to what to do with the renderings, but isn't it better to be safe than sorry?

The name of the landfill site is Brady Dump, its on the south end of Winnipeg. The name of the rendering plant is Rothsay. They say this is a temporary site for the rendered animals, I`m sure once the animals are buried they will never see day light again.

I saw the news clip last night, this is a sad state of affairs for sure, I think there are alternatives to this, especially with new technologies that could use these animals to create energy. About time we did a good review on how we handle these things.
