With all this talk of free enterprise and not wishing Government subsidy/involvement how many beef producers reading this have availed themselves of the Federal APP scheme?
After much phoning and form filling we are just applying now for the remaining 07 and entire 08 calf crops. Another silly program from the Feds that is a dubious use of taxpayer money but seeing they don't set or enforce proper anti-competition laws and thus cause many of our problems I reckon they are liable to help us through tough times.

It's no different than the advances grain producers have been able to take. We took it last year, and did it again this year. It does require the ability to budget though. I can see a person getting in some big trouble if they spend the money unwisely and then find themselves short when the calves are sold.
