Am I catching the tone right, Sean. After the not so smart producers finally are handheld through the age verification process and then receive carcass data, they are not capable of interpreting it? Good thing there are consultants in this business to help out!

Per I am not saying that at all. But if you sell calves at weaning like most guys, carcass information doesn't particularly help you, unless you plan on changing marketing strategies. there will be a lot of profitable cows culled because they get back one calf record that isn't spectular.

Further to that Per, I am rather excited about potentially getting carcass data back. Some of the issues are going to be determining what cattle you sold that were managed together, and the actual value of the carcass.
There are all kinds of things that can be done to increase the value of the records collected, and it can only help to clean up product quality. But we will see some good cows go because of carcass data on one calf that may or may not be relevant to that cow's profitability.

Sorry Sean, I reread my post and it did have a bit of edge about it. I have a few years of carcass data on all my calves and we have the data on the direct to consumer beeves we market. You are right it is interesting but none of our "easy doing" type cows had to hit the road, thankfully. That is the biggest attraction to Canada Gold. It is a way to retain info and maybe further rewards in a Commodity type system. I think the average guy can do this stuff and do appropriate analysis to use the data wisely.
