Last week Oprah really spurred controversy with her comments regarding animal agriculture. In case you missed it Oprah was toured through a Cargill facility and she took some shots at the red meat industry. At the NCBA 2011 conference I thought I would get the opinion of a real farmer and rancher on what Oprah was saying about his industry and how consumers can really find out about the food that they are consuming. I talked to Troy Hadrick a South Dakota rancher about what Oprah said and what he thinks consumers need to consider about celebrity comments. One of the key points Troy makes is that you shouldn't use Google to find out about the food you are eating. Google has never raised any food. You are much better off to talk to real farmers and ranchers to get the information from actual producers.

Troy Hadrick is famous for his FailTail wine video which forced Yellow tail wineries to reconsider their contribution of $100,000 to the HSUS. He is also very proactive in talking about the need for agriculture to tell its story through Advocates for Agriculture.
