Last year because of the drought, out west a lot of horse people had to sell soom good horses because they could not feed them. I felt bad but I thought hay a good cheep horse.
This year my cattle are not worth any thing and I'm pissed because I just read that 100 head of weanlings are going to be sold at my sale barn.
So I guess my sale barn, is just looking out for them selfs also, and not the local farmers.
The tv anouncer get said tonight about a rancher out west that is selling the ranch and you know from the way he told the story you could just tell he didn't give I dame. A friend told me to night, you got a job off the farm, so big deal that cattle are not worth anything.
How can the customer be right, when he knows absolutely nothing about the product. Way is it that every one and their dog can tell me how to raise a cow for meat, and I wouldn't even dream on telling a pig farmer how to raise pigs.
Another friend was telling me about going to the meeting to stop a farmer from raising pigs just down the road, while eating a pork chop.
Onless their is no food at the supermarket not a person cares.
And I feel guilty because a farmer is bringing 100 head from Manitoba and I may loose a nickel on my own calfs.
Well know that I've told every one how I feel, I feel much better. Thanks for reading this I hope every one had a laugh, its just to bad its not very funny.

ALICIA this is probably as good a place as any to vent some of your frustrations. I certainly understand them, eventually we have to understand that there is always going to be someone out there that does not understand your business but sure can give you advice how to make it happen.

The complexity of the agriculture business in Canada has most of us scratching our heads now and again and really we have both internal customers and external (end user customers) in my opinion the first customer you need to satisfy is yourself! After all if you are not happy with the product you are working with the job and lifestyle are no longer worth it. Keep in mind that you still need to make sure your product can flow through the supply chain and satisfy each successive customer to the end user. The customer may not always be right but they think they are and they are the buyers of our product. I am not near as concerned with the consumers or end users as I am with those that hold the power to close our boarders or take over our industry by controlling prices.

Value Cain FX- I went to your web site and I would think you's are very upset also. What you and your share holders are doing in Alberta is good.
It looks like you's took it one step ferther than what BIO did. They were working with a packing company call Better Beef. But because the farmers didn't have shares in the company, when the chips were down Better Beef knife the local farmers in the back.
