    Wow 10 inches of snow!!!

Got in a fight with SRD yesterday over getting a
burning permit. They wanted me to disk up my
pasture/grass around a bunch of brush piles.
Well short wet grass don't burn boys! Guy
wouldn't answer his phone at 8:30 so called his
office more stonewalling. Phoned my MLA by
4:30 he was in my yard writing out a permit.
Burning by 5:00 snow started at 7. If their giving
permits to my neighbors I get one too boys!

Quite often accidents happen? Maybe some hunter or something dropped a cigarette?
Act innocent....don't let the old snoop across the road see you out there dousing it down with a gas can!
    Stealth gets the job done!

The gov has a fire watch tower overlooking my
farm.....about 15km away. One time it rained for 3
days, you couldn't even see the hills/tower. I had
a couple old wooden grain bins to burn didn't
figure anyone would even be in the tower. A few
days later I went for coffee at the neighbors and
they said a SRD guy had stopped and they were
to tell me no burning without a permit. Guess I
should have pulled my combine our of the shed to
      block their view again!

Snowed again last night and supposed to snow
for another 5 days! Going to have to clean the
      yard some today.

Thats sounds great if you had a new sled sitting in the shop..LOL, thats okay you can have it I still have lots of work to try and get done this fall yet..hell we just finished hauling bales tonight. On the other side of the coin I guess if we did get snow all there is left to do is feed cows....

That's pretty tough. Will make for a long feeding winter. Hope you have lots of hay.

Cows and calves hungry and eating hard because
of the storm. Fed just over 200 animals 5 bales of
hay their eating like crazy. Bales shredder hitch is
v plowing snow. Had to clean snow out of bunk
              fence alley way.

Just got a call buses are cancelled for tomorrow.

As soon as it stops snowing the cat is getting
pulled out of the shop.....not Artic Cat either lol.

I'd rather have grass up to the cows belly than snow.

I actually have enough "winter grazing" to keep the cows out until January, but that is unlikely. Usually the snow gets too deep by early December around here (last year Dec 10). The good thing is it will still be there come spring!
This is native grass (prairie wool) and doesn't seem to lose a lot of it's feed value. This spring the last day I fed hay was April 30.
                  That made for a 140 day winter feeding period of 22 lb. hay @3 cents= $.66/day and 20 lb. straw @ 1.5 cents =$.30/day

About $135/cow. Of course that didn't include my labor or tractor.

You either need cows with longer noses or cows with
more foraging ability ASRG. We'll get more snow than
you and usually graze into late January. Might even go
further this winter with the volume of winter pasture
                    we have banked.

Well you have to remember my cows are mostly crossbreds with a fair bit of Sim/char in them. They probably aren't all that good at hustling for a living.
I actually kind of like feeding cows....sort of like "recreational work"! Because I don't have many cattle anymore it doesn't take very long and the tractor is in a heated shop and its a nice tractor. It'a about the only time I get to listen to Rutherford!
