    Off to New Zealand

Tuesday will see the new Mrs. and myself off to NZ with the Foothills Forage Assn. ag tour. It is our honeymoon (after 13 years). We spend 4 days at the south of the south island and then fly to the north island for 9 more days. We will visit farms, dairies and cattle auctions etc. Maybe even some universities...no comment.

I'm sure we will see cattle country that makes ours look pretty challenged. I think that their grass grows every day of the year. Production isn't the problem but markets could be.

Anyway we are looking forward to late spring down under. It has to beat early winter here!! Our cows and calves are still together and being subsidized by bale grazing. Will wean sometime after we return about Dec. 10.

I hope things are good in here while we are gone and of course you can take the boy from Alberta but you can't take Alberta from the boy!!

    Will report later. HT

Should be an interesting trip. NZ is one place I've
always wanted to get to but haven't made it yet.
Such a variety in a small country - geysers to fjords,
vastly different climates, mountains to coast lines.
Beautiful scenery and real enterprising spirit
amongst the people. I've several farming friends
emigrated there and used to meet many Kiwis over
in Scotland shearing sheep. Have a Steinlager for
    me!

Wow! That sounds like the trip of a lifetime. It's a place I've always wanted to see. When you get back you need to find a way to post pictures.

          Have fun!

            Happytrails---

Have a great trip and congratulations. With all this modern technology though we expect you to keep connected to agriville while you are "down under".

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. We are taking an Ipad so I might be able to stay in touch. If I get some pictures up on facebook I will let you know. So far there isn't much there thankfully. Search Ed Curry. Later.

Enjoy the trip, New Zealand is a comfortable place for a Canadian Rancher to tour. It's been quite a few years for me and I would someday like to return.

Have a great trip. They are very forage
aware over there, and have some great
                  marketers. details would be great.

BON VOYAGE. Please take care of the "Hobbits from Roselyn" while you're down under. Don't let them (or yourselves) get stressed about what might be happening back home. While you are in the beautiful New Zealand FORGET ALL ABOUT HOME - there's nothing you can do about it anyways, just chill and enjoy.

You may want to ask these southern folk (if you need some adrenaline) about the "green" programs being crammed down their throats, such as one which stops them from harvesting any of the trees on their property because the government is using these trees for carbon credits.

Or ask about how a small fertilizer company (Probatis) was squashed by the Commerce Department and multinational fertilizer corps.
                    "Ewan Campbell - Probitas"
http://www.ecofarm.co.nz/Probitas/The Probitas system. Ewan Campbells five steps.html (info on his system)

Then there's the "carbon fees" for the farm animals burps and farts.
