    Nitrates

I am grazing some heifers on a harvested wheat field that had a fair bit of hail damage so there is alot of regrowth out there.Tonight the forecast is for -3 and I am wondering when I have to be concerned about nitrates. Is this a hard enough frost? When a hard enough frost occurs can I put them back on the field in time?Any help much apreciated.

Countryguy everyone seemed to miss your post with GLTU slamming Canada. This is a beef board and that is meat not bitch.

I don't know if this is much help now but nitrates are a hard thing to predict or understand. I would think that if the cattle are on the field they have some tolerence as there may already be a slight level present due to the crop being stressed.

I do know when cutting after a frost you do it immediately or leave it for a couple of weeks. I don't know what you did but I would leave them on it. Good luck.

Countryguy, no problem. Actually I referring to GLTU being off track.

That whole thing has me baffled. To hit like a whirlwind like that seemed more than a little odd. Although some of GLTU's points were valid I'm still not sure all of that was for real.

I do know one thing for sure. This place has definitely livened up since cowman has returned.
