Holy Smoke! I was away a couple of days, and boy did I miss some action.

As for the America/Canada situation. I just finished watching "Bowling for Columbine" last night. I recommend it...now hear me out. I know Michael Moore is not the poster boy for most gun owners, but I still think it should be looked at.

This film - on the surface is about guns and gun control, but by the time it is done, digs into a lot of cultural differences that show up between our two countries, and between the States and most other countries in the world.

One of the main differences that of general attitude. There is an "us against the world, everyone is out to get us" attitude prevalent down there. A society based on fear of attack, from the first Pilgrims meeting the first Natives, right up to today. This carries down to everyday people on the street. Defense seems to be the cornerstone of the whole society, from international policy down to protecting the family home from burglers. The whole society is inundated with news and media reporting that is mainly consisted with warnings of danger of all kind. Watch CNN for a while, and pay attention, disaster is good for business. After a lifetime of this, who could help being defensive?

It was quite an eye-opener, and made me proud to be a Canadian. Far better to live in a country where understanding and discussion are the main focus, than one where the prime directive is "watch your back, everyone's out to get you". We may have our flaws, but we are basically a very humane society.

That's my rant for the day.

A footnote. With the gay marriage thing, I think it all boils down to the basic fact of whether you believe people are "born" gay or not.

My belief is that maybe, just maybe, God made "different" people for a reason, and that reason is to judge the rest of us by the way we treat them.

I am personally wary of people who say they "know" what God wants.

      End of rant.

Kato, they certainly are not BORN gay! We have all seen and heard of ex. gay's. But have you ever heard of an ex native or ex white man or ex black man?
No ...there life style is a decision. A choice.

kato - I don't think I was saying I "know" what God wants. However it's not hard for you to find out what He said, He wrote you (Kato) a letter to let you know what He wants. Try reading it.

I think everyone makes choices in this life and that is their right. We don't have to be little automatums that all dance to the same drummer. What one person thinks is evil is anothers passion in life. What we think as Christians, or Moslems, or Hindus has no bearing on human rights and other peoples right to live how they want.
If someone wants to be gay that is their right. They are not out breaking any laws.
We are all sinners and fall short of what is expected of us. To think otherwise is the greatest sin of all!
To think that God is punishing us with BSE or 9-11 or drought because we have gays is irrational thinking!

                You got that right!

I have read the "letter". I seem to remember something in it about love and compassion as well. And that bit about throwing the first stone. Oh, yea, and that guy who spoke to lepers, and sinners, and prostitutes, and treated them with love and respect.
It was a good example for us all.

                End of daily rant.

Boy that USA guy sure got us off the track here, didn't he?
