    Primary Producer Solutions ??

Do you think the government or associations have any real solutions for the long term sustainability of the Primary Producer?

Nothing I would call "real". They seem to jump from crisis to crisis, responding, but never thinking ahead to the next one. More re-active than pro-active.

Manitoba was warned many many years ago by producers here that there would be a disaster someday if we lost our packing plants. Surprise! Here it is.

I wish they would think ahead a little more, but it seems that spending money on future possible problems is politically incorrect. It's better to be seen as a hero in a crisis is much preferable to being seen as a "spender" on the future.

Government is never the solution. There might have been a time when they actually tried to "serve" the people but that time is long gone! Their one and only purpose is to get re-elected so as to keep their place at the trough.
I do believe most producer organizations actually are trying to do something. They tend to deteriorate into old boys clubs where the free whisky and steak takes precedence over doing the right thing. But I have to believe people like Neil Janke do what they do out of a sense of duty. The late Carl Block was a man of integrity who stood up for what he believed in. I didn't agree with him but had to admire his committment.

To true, the dog and pony shows always seem to have plenty of show. The people that are supposed to watch out for your interests seem to be overcome by the government puppeteers.

Where are the real programs to help primary producers? Well probably in the head of the producer, others seem to be out of touch!
