My son sold just about all the steer calves last Monday(kept three little tail enders). They averaged 683 lbs. after a 3% pencil shrink and $1.0875/lb. average. Came out at about $720 a steer after costs. Which was okay I guess but not earth shattering.
Sold them in a presort. Never had any feed in them other than what they were getting with their mothers.
Kept the heifers at home and I do believe as a group they are better than the steers(we had a lot of early heifer calves). Will basically maintain them over the winter with the better ones fed a little better. Either grass them next year or sell them into the grass market next spring depending on the price. Sure hope the border is open by then?
