I watched a bit of the federal cabinet swearing in ceremony to see who Bob Spellar (our new agminister)was.

I was shocked that in the oath they all took, there was no mention of allegiance or faithfullness to the electorate or Canadian taxpayer, it was TO THE QUEEN AND ALL HER HEIRS AND SUCCESSORS.

Give me a break. At times we all whine and complain about Canadians being in the shadow of the U.S. or not being taken seriously on the world stage. Here we are 136 years since confederation and we have our polticians being held accountable to the Queen of England?

Our kids can't say the Lord's prayer in many schools but our elected federal officials must worship her majesty the queen of england? WOW!

Queen not only of England but of the "United Kingdom" meaning Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as England. She's also the head of the Commonwealth of Nations which includes Canada I believe.

The Queen is legally our monarch. Thats just how it is. It doesn't mean anything in the real world...just pomp and ceremony.
And why not? After all would you rather have them swearing allegiance to that moron Bush who is our real master?
