    Good news?

    NCBA statement December 30th

"Finally, NCBA and our partners at Cattle Fax have been in touch with multiple beef retail, foodservice, wholesale distribution and packing operations. These operations are confirming that consumer demand for beef remains constant.

This is because U.S. consumers understand U.S. beef is safe. The BSE agent is not found in meat. We can say that based on multiple studies conducted since the late 1980s with BSE-positive cattle and cattle that were intentionally infected with the disease. Even in these high infection studies, the BSE agent has never been found in meat."

I guess this means the border will open any time soon for Canadian animals??

The Americans are going to have a tough time walking the tightrope! How do you tell your people one thing and then turn around and say another thing about the Canadian situation? Now is the time for our government to bring pressure to make the Americans "walk the talk".

We just came back from a trip to the Mid-Western States, the packers have pushed the prices down .30 cents but probably won't be able to push too hard because the pens are so current.

Apparently on a satelite sale of fats here the price was down 22% or right into that 68 cent range. My local auction mart owner suspects a drop of 25% on everything next week when they open...or at least he hopes thats all it is! Now lets see...that 8 cent cow will now be worth 6 cents? 1200 lb. cow X 6 = $72.00! Take off about $23 for selling costs and you get $49! Hope you don't have to haul her too far, especially with the wonderful fuel economy we get with our trucks nowadays! I think I get about 10 miles to the gallon!
But rest assured that that $49 cow will make somebody about $1000...it just won't be you or me!
