    Read whinning farmers

After reading what eought wrote you know
I think I may just call it quits in the fall. I work all by my self because no one else whats to help put hay in mow and I don't what all round bales. I had a calf born new years day and I realy didn't feel any joy because I know it was just more free food for people that do not what it.
But dam it later that day I went to the barn and made a big fuss over it, telling him what a big boy he was and malling it till it fight to get away from me, the cow just looked on and didn't say a work, but I just know she was proud of her baby boy, and didn't look mad at all.

Oh don't worry too much about "Enough" Alicia. He is either a real dingbat or it is somebody trying to stir things up...I see Strawboss is back in the country?
Don't let those type of posts deter you. It is very clear that the Canadian consumer supports us, if not financially at least morally! Look how they waded in and bought our beef when BSE turned up, despite the CBCs best efforts!

Just imagine if lawyers, bankers, teachers, etc awoke up one morning to find their income had dropped 90%. Then you would hear some real whinning and complaining.
If this happened to the oil industry you would see the government falling all over themselves handing out money.
The farmers have been taking a finacial hit for years, our income has not kept up with inflation since the 1970.

I have had concerns for some time that people like Enough who are not connected to agriculture, would have no clue what this could mean to the economy as a whole. Why should they worry ? All you have to do is go to the grocery store and get whatever you want off the shelf. The price of beef has barely changed in the meat department, so how would city folk know that there is a crisis. Do they know the price mark up on their food is huge. What about all the people who cry and whinn about the cost of health care and their meds. Try paying a vet bill for one year. What about all the millions of dollars the government is giving to the farmers !!! (which you hear on the news regularly) I for one have NOT received even one dollar in support payment since the BSE case.(I really don't know any producer who has, only several feedlots) But the city folk know the farmer is getting a hand out again. Do they really know the truth. They don't realize that this is all a policial game at the producers COST.
If the farmer had the ability to profit margin their products, this whole industry would be a different "ball game".
I think Enough was expressing the veiws of probably millions of people that are totally clueless about the agr.industry.
The only way they will become informed is when the selves are bare and with the ability to move products from one country to another so easily these days do you that will ever happen?

You know Junebug you are sure right about not getting anything from the government! I'm still waiting for my "big" check for the cull cow thing! Why you would think the whole problem should be solved now that our governments have poured so much money in?
In fact now when I take that old 8 cent cow in I get the privledge of paying another buck checkoff for the ABP! Strange that Alberta seems to be the only province throwing another buck into the pot? Of course we have to keep the old boys at the ABP comfortable. I mean they have certain standards that are necessary to keep up. I suppose that means T-bones and Crown Royal instead of beer and pizza?
So come on Ralph show us the money. Saskatchewan and Manitoba won't do anything until you lead the way!
