    Public crys

The public crys over no pet food, Canada open boarder to US pet food after what 2 days.

Well Alicia, it was just open for pet food that had no beef in it. But it can have lamb in it!
I've often wondered why we aren't using a lot more of those 8 cent cows in pet food? There was a guy on the National last night who sold four holstein cows and got a check for $7.54! I don't think even soy could compete with cheap cow?

Talk about keeping things in perspective. You could say that the fellow who sold the holsteins was ahead of the game as if he had shot them and had the 'fallen animal' truck pick them up it would cost him 4 x $75.00 = $300.00. Or if he had to slaughter them, cut and wrap, he would have to spend all his spare time marketing hamburger, provided he could get them into a facility before they died of old age.

Maybe if Mr. Martin does something major with "gun control" we will be able to shoot the cow, instead of "clubbing" it to death with a hammer!

Call me a stick in the mud, but dragging a cow up on my porch everytime my cats and dogs get hungry,(although cheaper than purchasing pet food) seems a little "Redneck". LOL

Sorry, sick sense of humour this morning!

It is sad that cows are bringing such little money.

I have to ask - is the dairy farmer, who can rely on selling his quota at some stage and getting conservatively $25,000 per cow in price for the quota, in the same position as a beef producer getting so little for his old cows? The dairy farmers costs of production are theoretically met as well.

Yes, they have some of the same input costs, but in the end it appears to me that there is a bit of a difference on the salvage value. Once the beef producers cow is gone, that's it.
