    United Cattle U.S.A. & Canada

We spend more time as countries accusing each other. It happened, it is now a North Americain problem. Perhaps it is time for Canada & the states to join our livestock programs together. One uniform body, one set of rules. We buy and sell live and processed beef to each other. I believe the states need our beef as much as we need theirs and their markets.
It's time for no more border when it comes to this trade. We in Canada will be the loser if we do not unite with the super power of the world. We can not compete with them when push comes to shove.
The beef should be marketed around our countries and the world as North Americain, period!!!!

I don't think Canada was ever the problem here! I think maybe the USA was the problem? No exactly free traders?
I suspect R-calf might not give this a ringing endorsement?

Free trade is only good when the US is on the benefit side of it. Ask any wheat grower.

So much for the so called "North American" beef industry. The NCBA wrote Anne Veneman to say "While we value Canada as a trading partner, we cannot allow this issue to bring devastation to our industry when it may clearly be a Canadian problem and USDA needs to be looking out for the interests of the U.S. cattle industry."
John Swanz of the Montana Stock Growers is quoted as saying " We continue to support decisions regarding the border be based on sound science, but with a likely second case of this dreaded disease in Canada, it is time for USDA to step up and represent and protect the U.S. livestock industry."
The NCBA has called upon the United States Department of Agriculture to immediately suspend any further consideration of rules to allow live Canadian cattle or beef products to enter the U.S. until the investigation is finished.
Its a darn good thing this cow was found in Washington or these Americans would be really PO'd. Can you imagine their support of a "North American" industry if Canada or Alberta starts testing all cows for BSE and actually finds a positive here at home.
For the record Mr. Swanz, this is not the second case of BSE in Canada, it is the first case of BSE in the United States.

Post: I wish Mr. Speller hadn't said anything today about how many cows and how much he is going to spend because he sure is going to look silly in the next short while when the media frenzy drives him to kick it up a notch. Well trial by fire, but it's too bad he was so young (on the job that is). He has big shoes to fill, may as well get used to backtrackin right off.
