    Value chain?

    The Americans have stated that one of their great safeguards to eliminating BSE is the restriction of "air stun guns". Now could you tell me how that will be better?
    One gun uses a blank .22 or .44 while the other more modern gun uses compressed air. Why would a compressed air gun be more dangerous than say the .44? Both use a driven pin, so how could the air gun be more dangerous than the .44?

    The above is an article that you may find interesting. In part it states the following;

    The Center for Science in the Public Interest said recent research at Texas A&M University and by Canada's Food Inspection Agency found a method called pneumatic stunning delivered a force so explosive that it splattered brain tissue throughout a cow's system.

    ``Our research shows that it's possible that microscopic particles of brain matter can be circulated to the lungs, liver and maybe other sites,'' Tam Garland, a research veterinarian at Texas A&M said in CSPI's July newsletter. ``The implications are frightening.''

    Some 30 to 40 percent of American cattle are stunned by pneumatic guns, which fire a metal bolt into a cow's brain followed by a pulverizing burst of 150 pounds of air pressure.

    The method is popular at larger U.S. meat plants because it renders cattle insensible longer than other techniques, erasing concerns the animals might revive before they are killed and cause havoc in a long processing line. Pneumatic guns are not used widely abroad.

    End of article

    As with many other pieces of information, this is a stretch! There is no research that shows this to be true! However, again we go back to what becomes an acceptable practice. The "BOLT GUN" or STUN GUN without the air pressure works fine but other methods such as a bullet are unacceptable. Go figure most of the producers that do their own farm kill must live on the edge eh?

    So the question is .... Do you think you're getting brains in your ground beef?

        Well I don't know? The hamburger I'm eating came from a heifer I shot in the field with the .22! Ground it myself but not sure about microscopic bits of brain! Not especially worried as I raised her myself and she never got no feed spplements other than mineral. I assume mineral is okay?
