Japans BSE problem

Can anyone tell me whether or not Japan still feeds SRM's to their cattle? If not, how is it these young stock are getting BSE?

I believe they still do allow SRM to be rendered and put into the animal feed. Trying instead to catch the problem by testing every animal at slaughter.

Well I hope their test is accurate! But when you consider how much money must be spent removing the SRMs and disposing of them, perhaps a universal test isn't costing them very much? Maybe that way would actually be cheaper?

So then I guess this is pretty good proof that it is transmitted through SRM's since in another thread a guy from Britain said they havn't had any new cases except where people were using illegal feed.
