    Grassfarmer...corn grazing

    Awhile back you had mentioned someone that sold conventional corn for seed....could you post their name again....have not heard back from the Manitoba supplier?
    Also, any feedback on RR corn and conventional? Like that conventional has a thinner stalk..possibly more leaves, but only guessing.....

      DeDell corn out of Ontario is what we use.

      Far superior yield to the Catt open pollinated corn but that's to be expected given that DeDell's are hybrids. Should say that is in our environment here in S. MB. We had less luck with higher corn heat unit varieties from DeDell. Maybe in your area Catt corn would be the way to go as you have a lot less heat units? It made mature grain corn with us while the DeDell was at just the right stage for grazing (less mature).
      Digestibility of both Catt and DeDell is better than RR varieties, DeDell not because it's thinner stalked as it makes bigger plants than most of the RR I see around here. Way leafier plants. The Pioneer RR varieties are said to be by far the worst for digestibility - like grazing bamboo canes.

      There is also a guy at Camrose who seems quite knowledgable about corn and sells seed. Would have more experience in your climate.

          The Maizex RR varieties are good, and neighbours have good luck with Brett Young fusion and Tundra.
